Wellington grad De’Andre Washington signs with Missouri State University in Springfield

Sumner Newscow report — De’Andre Washington, a 2019 Wellington High School graduate, has committed to Missouri State University in Springfield.

Washington, who holds the number-of-reception record as a wide receiver at WHS, signed this week after fulfilling his commitment at Hutchinson Community College.

Washington will be one of eight prospects who signed National Letters of Intent for the 2022 season. He will be playing under head coach Bobby Petrino, who also coached at the University of Arkansas, Louisville, and the Atlanta Falcons among others.

“It is a blessing,” Washington said. “I feel honored and I feel good.”

He will be transferring to the school this January and is expected to play cornerback for the school as a sophomore. Washington said he hopes to start next fall.

A 6-2, 180 pounder recorded 13 total tackles and 11 solo stops in 10 games this season at Hutchinson. He logged a season-high four tackles at Dodge City on Oct. 23 and was credited with two passes defended during the 2021 season.

The Bears went 8-3 in 2021 with wins over Central Arkansas, Southern Illinois, and Northern Iowa.

While in Wellington, Washington owns the career reception record of 95. He is also second only to Colin Reichenberger with 1,540 yards in receptions over his four-year career.
