Wellington Heat completes season with semifinal loss to NJCAA in NBC World Series
by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — The Wellington Heat completed one of their most successful seasons since arriving in the Wheat Capital of the World. The Heat lost to NJCAA 7-3 in the semifinals on Friday.
The Heat ended 45-10 and tied for third in the NBC tournament in its final year at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. Santa Barbara Forrester would beat NJCAA 6-5 in the NBC Baseball Championship.
Wellington had things rolling early on Friday. After two scoreless innings, the Heat grabbed a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Wellington’s Luis Amaro put the Heat on the board, by batting in David Burts from second. Alex Lyon scored would then score on a balk. Then Joe Rankin’s hit to center field brought Amaro home. 
Wellington sustained a 3-0 lead until the top of the sixth when the Nationals scored three runs. NJCAA then added two runs in the seventh, one run in the eighth and one run in the ninth to secure victory and end the Heat’s season.
NJCAA had 10 hits to Wellington’s six. The Heat committed the game’s only error.
