Wellington house fire results in $20,000 damage Thursday evening
Sumner Newscow report — On Thursday there was a structure fire at 6:54 p.m. on 119 E. Sumner in south Wellington to the resident of John Chinn.
Wellington Fire Department personnel arrived on the scene to discover a utility room in a residence was found on fire with heavy smoke throughout the structure. The fire was confined to the utility room, but smoke damage was throughout the home.
The fire was caused by the clothes dryer which spread to wall cabinets and nearby contents.
Occupants were home at the time of the fire and escaped safely with their pets.Â
Estimated damage to the home was $20,000 to structure and contents. Mutual aid was provided by Belle Plaine, Fire District 9; and Mayfield, Fire District 8.
At the time of the structure fire, Wellington and Oxford emergency crews were in the process of extricating an individual from a vehicle accident at River Road and U.S. 160. That individual was flown by Eagle Med to a Wichita Hospital.
