Sumner Newscow report — The Wellington Humane Society Pet of the Week is Rufus!

We are excited to have Rufus as our Pet of the Week! He has been through a lot and waited patiently for his turn! If you haven’t met Rufus, he was originally picked up by a kind person on the side of the turnpike emaciated and covered in fleas and ticks! He has a cleft palate, and our vet was able to perform surgery to close the palate, remove teeth that were out of place, and try to close the gums and lip.

Sadly, the lip didn’t hold together, but that was purely cosmetic. The palette is now closed and healed and that will help him have fewer complications from the cleft palate. He is now ready for adoption! Rufus is a big lover! He loves all the attention from people, but he doesn’t want to share it with other dogs, so he would be best as an only dog. Do you have room in your home and heart for this big guy?

Stop in this week to meet this special pet. The shelter is open Wednesday through Friday, 3 to 7 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you are interested in adoption, please complete the online application before entering to speed up the adoption process. WHS officials go in order of application received, so the sooner you get in your application, the better! And don’t forget, the Pet of the Week has a discounted adoption fee of $10 off cats during their week!
