Wellington-Labette post-game interview with Meeks
By Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow – The weekly post-game interview with Wellington head coach Jeremiah Meeks is as follows:
Jeremiah Meeks
Sumner Newscow: The team did what it needed to do. How important to get a win with an exclamation mark?
Meeks: I was happy with how we played. We handled our business and got it to a running clock early. Good win for us.
SN: Take out that last play; the defense held Labette to around 50 yards. Why was it so effective?
Meeks: The defense did a great job. Our defensive line dominated, and our secondary made plays all over the field. They did a really good job defensively.
SN: Offensively, you had another good game. Is the offense where you want it to be?
Meeks: Not yet, we still have a ways to go before I am happy with where we are. Still things to clean up and work on for sure.
SN: Dusty Bannister is currently leading the state in passing. What is the key to his success?
Meeks: He is doing a great job with his reads and keys — hitting the under routes and his receivers are making plays.
SN: Any injuries?
Meeks: No.
SN: Next week, you travel to Augusta. The Orioles have been having issues with scoring. Do you think that will be an issue this Friday night?
Meeks: They are a lot better team than their record shows; we will need to play sound and tackle well.
