Wellington Leadership team to hold service day on Earth Day; needs help with hunger outreach
Submitted to Sumner Newscow — This year’s service day will be on Wednesday, April 22 – Earth Day!  The Wellington Leadership team will be serving in a number of ways around the community, including a few new ones. Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors will be placed off campus, while freshmen will be working at WHS on a variety of projects.
The one project the leadership team really needs some help with is a project regarding hunger in Wellington.
“We will be working on a meal packaging event to benefit the Meals-on-wheels-for-kids summer program,” said Karla Defore, Wellington Leadership instructor. “Students will be working assembly line style to package meals for children in Wellington who may not have access to meals in the summer time. Â
The leadership team will be working with Outreach, Inc (outreachprogram.org) to package high quality, easy to prepare meals for children.
The cost is only $0.25 per meal. We have a goal of providing 8000 meals at a cost of $2000. If you could put this message out there for the community, we would really appreciate it. Individuals, businesses, or organizations may donate. They can make their checks payable to WHS Leadership.
“If we should happen to raise more money than our goal we plan to donate the excess to the Wellington Food Bank,” Defore said.
If you have any questions about our meal packaging event or about Service Day, please feel free to email Defore at kdefore@usd353.com
