Wellington loses to Mulvane 48-7 to fall to 0-8

by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Wellington fell to 0-8 after losing to Mulvane 48-7 Friday night.

The Crusaders have one last chance for victory when they travel to Ulysses next Friday night.

Wellington was without several starters including fullback Chris Kop and lineman Aaron Schoemann. The Crusaders had as many as five players out.

The game saw some offensive sparks, Wellington opened the game on an impressive drive only to be thwarted inside the 18 on 4th and inches. Two plays later, Jayden Price would rip off a 65-yard touchdown run slicing through the heart of the Crusader defense to put the Wildcats on the board.

From that point forward, Mulvane 140-pounder Keaton Shoemaker and Price would take turns making touchdowns. By the half, the Cats were in front 34-0.

In the third quarter, Mulvane added two more touchdowns to take a 48-0 lead into the fourth quarter. Wellington’s big moment came late in the fourth when Colton Glover scored on a 75 yard run for the longest touchdown run of the season.
