By Pam Strader, Sumner Newscow — The Wellington Middle School recently announced the members of its 2025 Fall Leadership Team. The team comprises of six students from each middle school grade level — 6th, 7th, and 8th. Their mission is to become school leaders who make a positive impact on their school and community. They aim to foster school spirit, inclusivity, and student voice by collaborating to create a better learning environment.

The WMS Leadership Team is sponsored by teachers Kristin White and Kristi Whaley.

The members for the 2025 Fall session are:

Sixth grade: Avery Cashier, Raelynn Brownlee, Kellyann Nance, Oliver Wood, Jenna Frazier, and Zyana Graham.

Seventh grade: Emersyn Yonash, Adelynn Crittenden, Elliana Ybarra, Isabella Carrillo, Emma Camblin, and Ziona Spencer.

Eighth grade: Temperance Brown, Blayr Nance, Zoe Ricke, Emma Campbell, Ethan Westmoreland, and Ben Caudillo.

To be selected for the Leadership Team, students must have received a recommendation from at least one teacher or staff member.

Additionally, they must maintain good academic standing and have no disciplinary referrals.

Throughout the school year, the Leadership Team will actively participate in various community activities. One of their notable initiatives is promoting a substance-free lifestyle, as emphasized during Red Ribbon Week. They will actively engage in and encourage others to participate in the week’s activities.

Additional activities are:

•Helping with student assemblies.

•Reading the morning announcements.

•Hosting a food drive before Thanksgiving, a competition among Knight Time classes (similar to homeroom), and the Patriot League schools. Food items and monetary donations are collected throughout the week, and the Team delivers them to the local food bank at the end.

•During the Christmas season, the team shops locally for the local Humane Society and delivers the items.

•In the Spring, some activities include selling candy grams during Valentine’s Week. This is the main fundraiser for the year.

•During Read Across America Week, team members visit elementary schools to read with younger students.

A new WMS Leadership Team will be announced in the Spring, providing additional students with the opportunity to contribute and serve their school and community.
