by Pam Strader, Sumner NewsCow — Dr. Seuss had a popular quote: “The more that you read the more things you will know, the more that you learn, the more places you will go.”

What started as an encouragement to her own children to read more, has led Kassandra Hurley of Wellington to share her version of the Book-It Program known as Kreations Reading Program with other parents, teachers, friends, and neighbors.

Kassandra, using the profits from her business Kreations by Kass, to purchase certificates and rewards for the Kreations Reading Program from local businesses in Sumner County.   All children are encouraged to participate. Rewards are available to those who are not in the local Sumner County Area.

Several teachers in the Wellington and Argonia area are participating in the program via their classrooms.  The enrollment process is simple.  A log of books read is submitted to Kassandra on or before the 3rd of each month.

The number of books to be read to achieve a reward is based on age and grade.    Previous rewards have been custom t-shirts, gift certificates and movie passes.   Moving forward Kassandra plans to add in other rewards working with other Sumner County businesses.

The April 2021 Kreations Reading Program Reward is a free pass to the Regent Theatre in Wellington.

To enroll or be a part of this program, contact Kassandra, and let her know how you can help. Together, everyone can make a difference. Hurley can be contacted via email at Kassandra.n.brown@gmail.com, or via her website:   Kreations by Kass
