Game Synopsis:

Baseball: Wellington’s bats were flying. 

The Crusaders opened the season with an impressive win against the Bulldogs. The Crusaders bats were flying getting 12 hits and eight walks. Ark City got 11 hits and four walks.

Shout out to the City of Wellington with the new stadium netting and those volunteers, who painted the walls at Sellers Park.

Everyone spent their spring break doing different things. But these two anonymous dads spent their break volunteering to paint the Hibbs-Hooten baseball walls.

The quality of play was a bit suspect for both teams. But it was game #1. Wellington committed five errors and Ark City made four.

Wellington opened with an 8-0 lead after two innings and 9-2 advantage after three. Ark City then scored six runs in the top of the fourth to get back into the game. The Crusaders would preserve the win thereafter.

Colton Bannister was the big hitter, getting three hits on three at bats — two of them going for doubles. He brought four runs in.

Wellington’s winning pitcher was Skyler Branan, who in five innings pitched struck out six and allowed two hits.

Softball: Crusaders off to slow start. 

Wellington girls got swept in their first outing of the season. In game one, Wellington mustered four hits and one run to fall to the traditional rich Orioles.

Augusta led 5-0 after the first two innings and then added six runs in the fourth to clinch the win on run rules. Haley Gulick was the losing pitcher, giving up 11 hits, walking six, and striking out. Wellington had just four hits.

In the second contest, Wellington had a much better performance at the plate, getting 10 hits. Unfortunately, it gave up 18 hits and committed nine errors.

Caroline Mott was the losing pitcher, pitching all seven innings, striking out four, and giving up one home run.

Gulick had a double, two hits, and three RBIs.
