Wellington Police looking for thief(s) who stole 13 firearms
Sumner Newscow report — During the early morning hours of August 31, 2022, thieves broke into a local storage unit and stole a Polaris ATV and (13) firearms belonging to the local Wellington “Pheasants Forever” chapter, according to Wellington Police Chief Tracy Heath.
Several days later, thanks to an alert local Wellington citizen, the Polaris ATV was recovered out at Hargis Creek watershed on the south side.
“Pheasants Forever” is a national non-profit, membership-based organization with a mission to conserve pheasants, quail, and other wildlife through habitat improvements, public access, education, and conservation advocacy…..To raise funds locally for “Pheasants Forever,” the Wellington Chapter has hosted a yearly banquet where firearms and other outdoor-related items can be won and/or purchased by members.
Unfortunately, thanks to thieves, this upcoming yearly banquet may not be as successful as years past.
Heath states:
“Are you passionate about hunting and habitat restoration?
Do you want to give back to a tradition that has given you so many memories afield?
Are you tired of thieves in our community?”
