Wellington electrical outage was due to a tree limb falling on power lines

Sumner Newscow report — The Wellington community suffered a power outage Wednesday afternoon for about 20 minutes around 3 p.m. Wellington City Manager Shane Shields said the outage was due to a large tree limb falling on the power lines in the alley between B and C Street in the 700 block north.

“That caused the interruption in service and triggered the circuit breakers at the main substation at the power plant,” Shields said. “The outage affected most of the city other than the areas serviced by the north (Crusader) substation, which are areas of the airport and far East U.S. 160 corridor.”

Shields said staff had to conduct a walk-through of the substation to confirm no other issues before restoring all circuits.
