Wellington Sailfish wins final home meet against Twin Rivers
by Shannon Wilson, special to Sumner Newscow — The Wellington Sailfish held its final home meet of the season when it hosted the Twin Rivers Club Seahorses.
While lightning from nearby storms caused many area swim meets to be called off last Tuesday, the Wellington Sailfish were able to navigate safely through their final home meet of the summer and dominated in the water against the Twin Rivers. With a team of only 12 Seahorses, TRC was no match for the 43 Sailfish, giving Wellington the win with a combined score of 423 to 49 (218 vs 19 for the girls, 205 to 30 for the boys).
The team captured 116 individual event ribbons with 92 top 3 finishes.
With no relay teams from TRC, swimmers cheered loud as they raced their teammates.
Sailfish swept the top three places in 37 out of 52 individual events.

With several high-level competition meets left this season and several Sailfish within 0.5 seconds of qualifying District and Championship cuts, expect this list to keep growing. Keep up the great work swimmers!
The Sailfish team will have tough battles ahead as they try to chase down the Winfield Seahorses on June 28 followed by the Derby Dolphins on July 12, two of the largest teams in the Great Plains Swim League. Swimmers will wrap up their regular season on July 15-16 in Winfield with the GPSL League Finals hosted in Winfield. All swimmers are eligible for these meets.
Championship meets require swimmers to achieve qualifying times giving them the opportunity to extend their swim season at District Championships in Topeka on July 22-24th, or to compete with the best swimmers in the Missouri Valley at the 2022 Missouri Valley Long Course Championships in Lenexa on July 28-31.
