Wellington sixth grader Quinn McCue raises money for Wellington Middle School Library

by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Quinn McCue, a Wellington sixth grade student, was in the Wellington Middle School library one day and was looking up a recipe for a class project. What he discovered was there were no books on the subject in the library that was written after the 1970s.
So McCue, as part of his yearly gifted project, decided to address the problem of outdated books in the WMS library, by raising money for new books.
On Tuesday, McCue presented a $957.84 check to the USD 353 – WMS Library for funds raised during a dodgeball tournament he helped organized a couple weeks ago (winning teams are pictured below).Â
Sarah House, the WMS Library, and his gifted program instructor Traci Ybarra were on hand to present the check. The USD Middle School office staff made the big check for this project.
During the Dodgeball tournament there were 12 teams ranging from grades third through seventh grade. The tournament was divided into two age divisions and a single elimination bracket was made. The winners of the tournament were.
So what books will be purchased? Ybarra said the students can participate in an online survey on the school website to determine what books can be purchased.

The Wombats were the winners of the sixth-seventh grade division. Members of the team include: Kileigh Peninger, Braden Struble, Grey Hatfield, Trayson Probst, Chi Barton, De’Andre Washington, Kaylene Neal, and Taylor Meyer.

Winners of fourth-fifth grade division were The Heat. Members of the team include: Kobey Jackson, Gavin York, Zack Morgan, Jaydon Pingry, Jaiden Derby, and Trenton Bannister.
