Wellington tennis coach not happy with effort Friday at Maize South
Sumner Newscow report — It was a brutal day for the Wellington boys tennis team at Maize South on Friday.
“We had very tough competition in every division,” said Allen Keller, Wellington tennis coach. “As a team, Wellington finished dead last and only won a team total of five games in our final four matches against the poorest teams we played all day.”Â
In No. 1 singles, Brock Edwards had the best day with a fourth place finish and a one win, three loss.
Will Long at No. 2 Singles also went 1-3 but finished eighth.
Jaden Adams/Reece Langford at No. 1 Doubles finished eighth going 0-4 as did Jared Oathout/James Hinman at No. 2 Doubles.Â
“Everyone competed hard in their first three matches, then seemed to run out of energy, enthusiasm, focus and desire to win during their fourth match,” Keller said.  “Not sure what that says? Either 1) the players did not have the fire/desire to compete toward the end of a tough day, or 2) poor coaching/cheerleading.”
Keller continued:
“But no one seemed to really care if they won or not… and a guy isn’t going to win many tennis matches with the level of effort we gave Friday evening. We need to start competing harder for the outcomes to change… and hopefully I can do something to affect that.”
