Welington finished eighth out of eight teams in the Maize South tournament.
Wellington’s No. 1 doubles team Pettegrew/Edwards had the best finish for the Crusaders, finishing fourth.
The duo went 2-1 in pool play, and played for third place. The two lost a close match to a very good Olathe South team 8-6.
“The highlight of the day was beating a very good Andover Central team 8-7,†said Allen Keller, Wellington head tennis coach. “This was a quality win that was much needed.â€
In No. 2 doubles Long/Adams had the next best finish, placing sixth. They went 1-2 in pool play and were able to play for fifth place, losing to Winfield in another close match 6-8.
In No. 1 singles Ian King and No. 2 singles Jon Ryberg both went 0-3 in pool play and both lost their final match and finished eighth. As a team, Andover Central took first, Buhler took second.

Girls softball:
The Wellington girls dominated Buhler, winning 19-0 in game one and 19-2 in game two. The Lady Dukes are now 5-7.
In game one, Wellington took a 3-0 first inning lead and was in front 4-0 after two. The Crusaders then scored 16 runs in the third. Wellington had 16 hits and no errors. Buhler had one hit and five errors.
Jade Dry and Abby Goodrum both hit home runs. Madi Lewellen was the winning pitcher, allowing one hit, one walk, and getting two strikeouts.
In game two, Wellington beat Buhler in six innings. Wellington built a 4-0 lead after one, 8-0 lead after two and was 11-0 after three. After two scoreless innings, Wellington would rip off eight runs in the top of the sixth for the win.
Dry was the winning pitcher. Avery Rusk was 4 of 5 at the plate for the Dukes.

Boys baseball:
Wellington boys lost a couple of tough games to Buhler in non-league action. Wellington lost the first game 4-3, despite outhitting Buhler 7-2. The problem was errors. Wellington had 4 and Buhler had 2.
Buhler opened with a 2-0 lead, and Wellington responded with a two runs in the second. The northern Crusaders then scored a run in the fourth, but Wellington responded in the sixth. Unfortunately, Buhler broke a 3-all tie with a run in the bottom of the sixth for the win.
Jared Shields had a three RBIs in the game. Adam Condit scored twice and had a double.
Condit was the losing pitcher allowing two hits, five walks, while striking out two. He had a 2.33 ERA for the game.
In game two, Wellington was again plagued by errors. The gentleman Dukes had four errors. Buhler had none.
Wellington opened with a 1-0 lead but fell behind 2-1 in the second. In the top of the fourth, Wellington would score four runs to lead 5-2 going into the bottom of the third. But the lead was short-lived. Buhler would score a run in the bottom half of the inning and then would get four runs in both the fourth and fifth inning en route to victory.
Wellington again matched its opponent at the plate getting eight hits to Buhler’s eight hits.
Jace Lowe was the losing pitcher. In his four innings pitched he had five walks, allowed four hits, and had two strikeouts.
Wesley Gilmore in relief for three innings allowed three hits, one walk and struck out two.
Wellington is now 5-5 for the season and hosts Circle Thursday. More stats of the games can be found here.
