Wellington tennis team wins home invite! Baseball/softball teams still looking to play first games
by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — The Wellington boys tennis team finished first in the home invitational Tuesday evening.
Wellington finished with 36 points. Goddard Eisenhower placed second with 31. El Dorado placed third with 14, Kingman 8, and Augusta 2.
Brian Peck was a first place winner in No. 1 singles with a 4-0 record. Dutch Brownlee placed second in No. 2 singles with a 3-1 record, losing only to Goddard.
Jon Ryberg/Tyler Pettegrew were first place winners in No. 1 doubles with a 4-0 record.
Chaz/Crittenden/Anthonoy Glazer were second place winners with a 3-1 record, losing only to Goddard.
Since Kingman didn’t bring a No. 2 doubles team, Wellington’s No. 7 and No. 8 players Ian King and Avery Chaney played in their spots and went 2-2 with wins against Augusta and El Dorado and losses to Wellington and Goddard.
“Everyone played really well,” said Allen Keller, Wellington head tennis coach. ” If we continue to improve every three weeks at the rate we have the first three weeks, I’m very optimistic about our chances the rest of the season.”
