Wellington track freshman Dru Zeka is Big Cheese Athlete of the Week
By Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Dru Zeka, a Wellington freshman in track, has been named Big Cheese Athlete of the Week.
Zeka was recently named a “Freshman to watch” by the “Sports in Kansas” social media feed after placing several times at the K.T. Woodman Classic at Wichita State University last weekend. She finished first in the elite long jump division, tied for second in the elite high jump, finished first in the 200 in 6-4A, and helped the 4×100 meter team (which also includes Tatum Edwards, Claire Ginter and Addy Wilson) finish third in elite.
Currently, her track standings are off the charts. She is currently ranked in the following races in Class 4A and in the Coffeyville Regional to be run on May 16:
•200 meters: third in 4A, second in regional.
• 300-meter hurdles: fourth in regional.
•High jump: third in 4A, tied for first in regional.
•Long jump: second in 4A, first in regional.
For her efforts, Zeka is the recipient of a large, delicious Big Cheese Pizza at 324 N. Washington.
