Wellington varsity girls golf team are the Big Cheese Athletes of the Week
By Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Who else? The Wellington varsity girls’ golf team is named Big Cheese Athletes of the Week for winning the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Div. III and IV tournament on Tuesday.
The girls consisting of Taryn Viramontes, Claire Ginter, Presley Cornejo, Kenna Maxwell, Aubrey Hunt and Evenlyn Trefecanty shot a 361 team score to knock out rival Winfield which shot a 365 at the league tournament at Hidden Lakes in Derby. Viramontes finished second with a 79, while Ginter placed third with 85, Cornejo fourth at 97, and Maxwell sixth with a 100. A special shout-out to Ginter, who also set a school record last Thursday in El Dorado with a 74.
For their effort, the six girls are each recipients of a large, delicious Big Cheese Pizza at 324 N. Washington.
