Wellington volleyball is currently 7-3 with another double-dual sweep, after a tough Valley Center tourney
Sumner Newscow report — The Wellington girls volleyball team got back to winning Tuesday night in Clearwater after a difficult tournament in Valley Center on Saturday.
Wellington is 7-3 going into Saturday’s Chaparral Tournament, an event the Crusaders have traditionally done well in.
Yesterday, Wellington defeated Augusta 25-22, 25-14 and Clearwater 25-15, 25-20. Wellington is currently 6-0 in dual play and 6-0 in the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Div. IV.
The Valley Center tournament was tough, as Wellington competed against Class 5A and 6A schools. Wellington opened the tournament against Class 5A top 10 ranked Kapaun in the first match. The Crusaders Red really gave those in blue a good contest. Wellington won the first set 28-26, but would lose the second and third sets 25-20 and 25-15.
Wellington then played Class 5A Hays and would lose 25-19, 25-19. That sent the Crusaders to the consolation bracket, where they would lose to Emporia 25-21 and 25-23.
But the Crusaders did get out of the Valley Center gymnasium with a win, beating Wichita East 25-21, 25-15.
Wellington’s opponents in the Chaparral Tournament will be Chaparral, South Haven, Remington, Rose Hill, Cheney, Nickerson and Clearwater.
