Wellington wrestler Averie Burns signs with Indian Hills College
Sumner Newscow report — The college girls wrestling program in Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa could easily be referred to as “Wellington Northeast.”
The Warriors’ program has signed their second Crusader wrestler in a year. Today, Averie Burns, a Wellington senior, inked with Indian Hills to wrestle at 235 pounds joining high school teammate Kaitlyn Hain, who signed with the same school in December.
“This is quite an accomplishment,” said Wellington head wrestling coach Mitch McComb. “We have had only three years of girls wrestling and have now had two girls sign to wrestle collegiately.’
Burns is a two-time state qualifier. She was state-runnerup at the Class 4-1A Division II State wrestling tournament in Salina in February finishing her year at 27-7.
Burns held a signing ceremony today with her youth group director Conita Burden, coach McComb and brother Maddox Black.
