WHS wrestlers

This will be the biggest event in years for the Wellington High School wrestling program. The Crusaders will be vying for an Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Div. IV championship. The Crusaders host Augusta at 5 p.m.

Wellington swept Andale and Clearwater Thursday and have a pretty good shot of beating Circle in a week. This one, though, is for the marbles. Augusta is favored.

“We have to pull off some upsets to win this,” said Mitch McComb, Wellington head wrestling coach. “We will be underdogs in I would say seven matches going into tonight.”

While Wellington outdistanced the opponents because of its strength in heavyweight. Augusta will be a different story. The Orioles are loaded at the top.

Wellington should be getting back to full strength. Jason Haydon will be returning at 160 pounds. We will twitter live results on our Cueballnewscow feed tonight starting at 5 .m.

WHS girls basketball

Wellington will battle Garden Plain tonight at 7:15 p.m. in the championship semifinals. The Lady Dukes will need to play like they did in the fourth quarter against the Defenders and less like the first three quarters. Wellington is 7-3 but Garden Plain is 10-1 and ranked fifth in the state in Class 3A. This might be the toughest team Wellington has seen yet this season.

WMS schedule

Wellington Middle School basketball teams battle Goddard Eisenhower tonight.
