The Crusaders swept both Andale and Clearwater in league action Thursday night. Wellington defeated Andale 48-26 and Clearwater 48-15 at home.

Andale came into the dual ranked No. 3 in Class 4A, buoyed by four top 10 ranked wrestlers. Three of those boys made the trip to Wellington with the exception of Kyle Armstrong at 160. But Wellington was without Jason Haydon at 160 either.

Wellington head coach Mitch McComb said going in the Crusaders had a great shot of toppling Andale. The Indians did not have the depth of years past.

The Crusaders grabbed an early lead with Sage Ferguson, Andrew Pelkey and Ben DeJarnett getting pins and two open weight classes. On the other end, Vincent Ast, Taylon Lamkin and Tyson Hodson would score pins.

At the end, Andale scored just two pins at 113 and 152.

Wellington’s dominance continued against Clearwater with a romping 48-15 win. Clearwater took an early lead getting pins at 106 and 132 and scoring a decision. But from 138 pounds thereafter Wellington would not lose a match. Pelkey at 138, DeJarnett at 145, Joey Haydon at 152, Bruns at 160 and Ast at 182 all were victorious. Clearwater spotted Wellington 18 points in the top three weight classes.

The match of the night was at 113 between Clearwater’s Dalton Chambers and Wellington’s Graysen DeJarnett. The two boys would go into overtime tied at 7-all both getting stalling points at the end of regulation.

DeJarnett would get a near fall at the buzzer of the first overtime to claim victory.

Wellington is now 2-0 in league play and is smelling a dual league championship. But Augusta looms. Wellington travels there on Thursday, Jan. 22. The Crusaders are at home on Thursday, Feb. 7 against Circle for the final league match.
