Wellington’s 4×100 meter relay team are the Big Cheese Athletes of the Week
By Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — The Wellington 4×100-meter relay team is the Big Cheese Athletes of the Week.
The team, consisting of Zakhyon Roberts, Jason Golden, Cooper Hatfield, and Jalik Armstrong, broke a Wellington school record set 25 years ago by winning the 400-meter relay race at the Wellington Invitational held Friday evening.
The relay team ran the race in 43.46, besting the 25-year-old record set by Eric Wiedower, Jason Wagoner, Steven Brothers, and Wellington head track coach Tim Lira, who ran 43.48 in 2001. Needless to say, they not only won the event but also helped Wellington win the track meet.
For their efforts, each of the four young men are recipients of a large, delicious Big Cheese Pizza at 324 N. Washington.
