Wellington’s Caleb Reichenberger, Belle Plaine’s Bo Gooch named Big Cheese Athletes of the week
by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — We couldn’t narrow the selection, so for the first time ever we are choosing two Big Cheese Athletes of the Week from different schools.
Caleb Reichenberger, a Wellington High School senior, was chosen for helping Wellington to a 35-14 victory over Augusta. Bo Gooch, a Belle Plaine senior, was named after Friday’s big 41-40 win over Cherryvale.
Caleb Reichenberger
Reichenberger was part of a valiant defensive effort Friday night for the Crusaders. He was one of the leading tacklers, getting 5.5 tackle, including four sacks, helping the Crusaders hold Augusta to just 154 yards of offense – 100 if you don’t count the final drive. Reichenberger was also outstanding on offense. He caught one pass for a 34-yard touchdown. He also had an impressive 30-yard pass reception on a third-and-forever late in the game, which was all for naught because the official called a silly illegal player downfield penalty on Wellington.
Bo Gooch
Gooch had an outstanding night as quarterback for Belle Plaine in the Dragons dramatic win including scoring the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds. He was 17 of 30 passing for 364 yards and five touchdowns passes. He also had 44 yards rushing on 12 carries.
For their efforts, Reichenberger and Gooch will receive a FREE large delicious Big Cheese Pizza at 324 N. Washington in Wellington.
