Wellington’s Payton Ginter does it again – heads to state in golf for 3rd consecutive year

Sumner Newscow report — For the third consecutive year, Payton Ginter has qualified for state in girls golf.

Ginter finished with a 93, second highest score in the Class 4A Regional at Quail Ridge golf course in Winfield. She shot a 93, 21 over par. Elly Bertholf of Winfield was the winner of the tournament, shooting a 90.

“Well, it was a long windy day at Quail Ridge,” said Wellington co-head coach Vanessa Sawyer. “Scores overall were pretty high due to the course just being in amazing shape.” 

As a team, Wellington failed to qualify for state. Winfield won the event with 394. Topeka Hayden had a 430, Circle 439, Augusta 440, Wellington 484 and Mulvane 596.

“The rest of the girls had a great day and it was a great experience to continue to prepare us for next year,” Sawyer said.

The other Wellington individual scores were:

Emma Stover, 128, 24th.

Kasiah Richmond – 130, 27th.

Eliza DeJarnett – 133, 28th.

Leanna Herring – 134, 29th.

Ashlyn Sowersby – 137, 30th.
