(Updated) Wellington’s R.J. Clift is named Big Cheese Athlete of the Week

R.J. Clift vs. Collegiate.

(Update: Clift had six rebounds, three assists, two deflections, two steals and three blocks against Collegiate).

by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — R.J. Clift, a Wellington High School senior, has been named Big Cheese Athlete of the Week.

In Friday’s 64-60 loss to El Dorado, Clift led the team in deflections (9) and steals (4) as a defensive force. That set up his sensational game with Wichita Collegiate when he was all over the floor defensively. In a key fourth-quarter minute, he had two steals that led to five points helping Wellington change a 9-point deficit into a 1-point lead. Although Wellington would go on to lose to Collegiate 63-55, Clift was a force on both sides of the ball. He was the team’s leading scorer with 14 points.

For his effort, Clift is the recipient of a large delicious Big Cheese Pizza at 234 N. Washington.
