Wet Memorial Day weather didn’t stop local citizens from paying tribute to those no longer with us
Sumner Newscow report — With 1.66 inches of rain in Wellington this weekend – much of it on Monday morning, for the second straight year there was not a Memorial Day service at Prairie Lawn cemetery.
That didn’t stop local Sumner County citizens from enjoying the Avenue of Flags and paying tribute to those no longer with us. The flag display, now at 1,256 strong, was still quite the display despite the wet weather. Also despite the conditions, local families did not hesitate to decorate the gravestones of those who have departed us including the family of C. Benny Ybarra Sr. who died on January 5, 2004.
Memorial Day weekend was one of remembrance and few do it better than the people of Wellington.

Remember, all Memorial Day decorations need to be removed by June 10 as the cemetery staff will be conducting a clean-up day.
