WHS Grad Peyton Adams is a finalists for Queen Alalah Coronation to be held Friday

Sumner Newscow report –  Peyton Adams, a 2015 Wellington High School graduate, is one of five women selected by Cowley College students, faculty, staff, and administration as a finalists for Queen Alalah LXXXV to be crowned during the annual Coronation on Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Arkalalah Festivities this weekend.

The other finalists include: Morgan Bruce, Arkansas City; Stephanie Cabrera, Arkansas City; Peyton Cravens, Arkansas City; and Kyndal Dutton, Winfield.

The Coronation will take place in the Robert Brown Theatre inside the Brown Center for Arts, Sciences and Technology on Cowley College’s Arkansas City campus. People attending the Queen’s Coronation will vote to determine the next Queen Alalah.

Hearing of the enjoyment her family had in attending Cowley College, Adams decided to follow in their footsteps and also attend the school.  She is the daughter of Eric and Coni Adams of Wellington, and the granddaughter of Linda and Gary Fair of Wellington, and Cindy and the late Kenny Adams of Wellington. She has an older sister, Erianne, who also attended Cowley College.

While in Wellington, Adams was the Senior Class president, president of SADD, and was involved in FCA, National Honor Society, tennis, softball, and basketball.

She was a three-time Class 4A state qualifier in doubles and also placed in singles at the state tournament as a senior. Adams was offered a tennis scholarship to attend Cowley where she is a member of the nationally ranked Lady Tiger tennis team. Adams serving as a Student Ambassador and an RA in the William R. Docking Dormitory.

“I love the atmosphere and how tight knit the campus is,” Adams said. “I have had a great experience at Cowley and have had an opportunity to be involved in lots of things.”

Adams is majoring in pre-nursing with the hopes of becoming a Pediatric Oncology Nurse. After Cowley, she plans to apply to nursing school at either Kansas University or Pittsburg State University.

While in high school, Adams had an opportunity to job shadow the nursing staff at the Sumner Regional Medical Center. That experience, along with seeing how the nurses cared for her late grandfather, Kenny Adams, led Adams to become a pre-nursing major.

“Nursing has captured my heart,” Adams said.

Adams said she enjoyed coming to Arkansas City to enjoy the Arkalalah festivities while her sister was a member of the Lady Tiger tennis team in 2013 and 2014.

“I hope to take away great memories with this group of girls,” Adams said. “I am really good friends with the other four girls and am excited and honored to be nominated.”
