WHS Junior Jack Wright named Big Cheese Athlete of the Week
Jack Wright
by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Jack Wright, a Wellington High School junior, is the Big Cheese Athlete of the Week as the kicker for the Crusaders.
Wright kicked seven extra points in the game and was 7-of-7 during Wellington’s big 49-12 victory over Labette County. Wright came one kick from tying the Wellington school record set by Colt Cody, who kicked eight in 2000. Here are the top five PAT point-getters in a game in WHS history.
1. Colt Cody, 8, 2000.
2. Jack Wright, 7, 2021 (vs. Labette).
2. Claude Whitfield, 7, 1925.
2. Bill Nofsinger, 7, 1950.
2. Mike Collins, 7, 2009.
For his efforts, Wright receives a large delicious Big Cheese Pizza at 324 N. Washington in Wellington.
