Ben DeJarnett

by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Ben DeJarnett, a Valedictorian for the 2014 Wellington High School class of 2014, has received a scholarship that will be $18,277 a year to Ottawa University.

DeJarnett, the son of Shawn and Kristen DeJarnett, was invited and competed in the Top Scholars Competition at Ottawa University on March 1st.  In preparation for said competition, WHS Principal Dale Adams coordinated mock interviews for Ben to simulate the competition.  The interview panels were comprised of volunteers from school personnel and community members.

Based upon his credentials and performance at the competition, DeJarnett was awarded a Provost Scholarship at Ottawa University, which is a 75 percent tuition paid over his four years.  Based upon 2014-1015 tuition, this scholarship will be $18,277.00, per academic year.  He has accepted this scholarship and will be attending Ottawa in the fall.

He intends to major in biology.  He has also decided to wrestle for Ottawa and will be signing his letter of intent in a few weeks.

“We deeply appreciate the volunteers that helped prepare Ben for this competition,” said the DeJarnett family.
