Wilbur Scobee Jr., 56, Wellington: April 29, 1965 – August 22, 2021

Wilbur Scobee

Wilbur R. Scobee, Jr. died following a brief illness on Sunday, August 22, 2021, in Wichita at the age of 56. He was born the son of Wilber and Ester (Hernandez) Scobee on April 29, 1965 in Wellington. Wilbur graduated from Wellington High School in 1984 and began working soon after. He was employed at the City of Wellington for many years but has been employed at Envision, Inc. in Wichita for the last 6 years. Wilbur found his time there very rewarding and especially enjoyed being a driver for the visually impaired.

On May 31, 2016, he and Gretchen Moore were united in marriage in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. The two of them loved going on cruises where they were able to travel many exotic islands. Although they loved life on the ship, Wilbur insisted on taking adventures when they were in various ports. He was a big sports fan and loved the Kansas City Chiefs and KU. Over the years, he created a large collection of HO Scale model trains and had a special room where he enjoyed running them on his tracks. Most of all, he loved being a father and grandfather and looked forward to any time spent with his large extended family. He was easy to get along with, a bit ornery, and could always make people laugh. Wilbur will be missed by all that knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Gretchen Scobee of Wellington; daughter, Krystle Scobee of Wellington; daughter, Kelsey Scobee of Boyton Beach, Florida; son, Tyler Scobee of Lake Worth, Florida; granddaughter, Aspen Hall of Wellington; granddaughter, Nattiel Scobee of Wellington; step-son, Connor Stone of Dexter; step-daughter, Sawyer Bowman and husband Dylan of Belle Plaine; step-son, Greysen Williams of Pensacola, Florida; step-granddaughter, Paislee Bowman of Belle Plaine; father, Wilber Scobee of Wellington; mother, Ester Scobee of Wellington; sister, Deborah Brunsteter and husband Tom of Pawhuska, Oklahoma; sister, Connie Malone and husband Larry of Moline; sister, Denee Scobee Rice and husband Vincent of Ponca City, Oklahoma along with a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held for family and friends at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Will and Gretchen’s home, 228 South Bright Street, Wellington. There will be food, drinks, music, laughter, swimming, and a few tears but all are welcome to join Will for one last party.

A memorial has been established in his name with Envision Inc. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
