Winfield Arts & Humanities Council ‘Art in the Park’ Festival will be Oct. 3
The Winfield Arts & Humanities Council is hosting its 52nd Annual Art in the Park Festival in Island Park on Saturday, October 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a “Road Trip Across the USA” theme, complete with a Pharaoh’s Car Club Show & Shine plus Main Street Cruise-In.
Celebrating the art of car design and paint jobs, an impressive display of both antique and new cars and trucks will be on display for attendees to enjoy. Barclay Wilt will be doing a live pinstriping demonstration, and folks will even have the opportunity to try it out for themselves on a Cadillac Ranch-style art installation. There will also be more of the WAHC’s own “roadside attractions” that will be interactive and fun for the whole family.
Twenty-three art exhibitors have already signed up to show their best work in the annual juried art show. These artists will also have several handmade original items for sale in their booths. Stephanie Weiss is returning with her whimsical, ethereal watercolor paintings of animals, fairies, and celestial themes.
Also returning is Caitlin Overby with Cate’s Pot Shop, where she will be throwing pottery on the wheel in her booth and selling her beautiful and functional creations. Mike Fell will give attendees the chance to glaze their own pots for on-the-spot raku firing, a hands-on experience you won’t want to miss.
The Knotty Kibben is a new exhibitor this year, showcasing laser-engraved and painted wood depicting funny and regal-looking cats and dogs. For those who love glass pieces, Artistry in Glass by Mollie will feature handcrafted stained-glass art, including suncatchers, plant stakes, ornaments, jewelry, 3D pieces, bookmarks, and angels made from vintage china. Another new exhibitor is Louise Trombold, a fiber artist who creates unique hand-sewn bags in a variety of domestic and imported fabrics.
These artists and more will compete for Best in Show, Best Original Craft, and other awards, which will be decided by a qualified judge during the festival. These awards come with cash prizes and notoriety, something they can take with them on the road.
