Wellington High School wrestling tournament – Saturday

Team totals:

1. Wichita Northwest. 2. Mulvane. 3. El Dorado.

Notable Wellington individual results:

•Jason Haydon finished first at 160 pounds. Wellington Head Coach Mitch McComb said this is probably the first Wellington wrestler to finish first in the preseason Wellington tournament in five years.

“Jason is really showing a lot of maturity,” McComb said. “He seems to be slowing down and anticipating what his opponent is going to do next.”

•Taylon Lamkin finished fourth; Andrew Horn placed sixth; Andrew Pelkey finished fourth.

On tap tonight:

Wellington High School basketball:

Andale, home. Varsity girls – 6 p.m., varsity boys – 7:30 p.m, JV boys, girls and C teams to play.

Notes: This marks the home opener and the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Div. IV opener for the Crusader basketball teams. Both teams are trying to rebound after their first losses in the Kingman tournament championship. Andale isn’t a good team to do that. Indians are predicted to win the girls side and the boys are picked to finish second behind Collegiate.

Other Sumner County games:

Cunningham at Argonia.

Belle Plaine at Wichita Trinity.

Conway Springs at Garden Plain.

Cedar Vale/Dexter at Oxford.

South Barber at South Haven.
