Zane McHenry, 27, Wellington charged with 3 felonies by county attorney’s office today

by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Zane McHenry, 27, of Wellington has been charged with three felonies, two misdemeanors and one traffic infraction by the Sumner County Attorney’s office today for a drug bust that occurred at 5:30 p.m. Sunday evening at 16th and Day Street in Wellington.

McHenry has been charged with:

•Failure to signal for turn, a traffic infraction;

•Driving while license is suspended or revoked, a second offense Class A misdemeanor which contains a mandatory five day jail;

•Possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, a level 2 felony;

•Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, a level 5 felony (greater than 3.5 grams);

•Possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A non-person misdemeanor;

•Failure to affix drug stamp; a level 10 non-person felony.

McHenry will have a hearing date on June 6, at 9 a.m. at Sumner County District Court.

According to the district court complaint, McHenry was driving a vehicle that left 16th Street and onto Day Street in Wellington without giving a signal of intention to turn and was stopped by the Wellington Police Department.

McHenry was allegedly driving with a suspended driver’s license.

Upon a search, WPD discovered he allegedly had in his possession Methamphetamine in a quantity greater than 3.5 grams but less than 100 grams. He also had marijuana in a quantity greater than 3.5 grams but less than 100 grams.

Also in his vehicle he was alleged to be carrying a glass pipe, syringe, and a baggie with intent to “store, contain, conceal, inject, ingest, inhale, or otherwise induce into the human body.”

His sixth charge said he possessed more than 28 grams of marijuana and failed to have affixed an official Kansas Tax Stamp showing that the tax imposed had been paid.

Two other people were allegedly involved in the incident, but no other charges have been filed by the attorney’s office at this time.
