Sports update: WHS golf, tennis teams both place 2nd; WHS volleyball gets swept

Tuesday results: 

Wellington High School girls golf

Wellington places second behind Class 5A Andover at the Andover Central Invitational.

Individual WHS scores: Taryn Viramontes – 66, third. Presley Cornejo – 73, 10th. Claire Ginter 79, Aubrey Hunt – 77. Evelyn Travecanty – 82.

Kyra Cornejo played at No. 1 singles on Tuesday.

WHS Tennis

The Wellington girls placed second at its second home meet of the season.

Sterling won the tournament with 25 points. Wellington finished second with 20. Kingman had 8 and Chaparral had 7.

As mentioned in the Athlete of the Week article below, Logan Robinson and Cruz Cornejo finished first with victories over Kingman 8-0, Chaparral 8-3, and Sterling 8-2.

In No. 2 singles Kyra Cornejo finished first. She defeated Claie Birkenbaugh of Kingman 8-3, Danika Bingle-Zimmerman of Sterling 8-4, and Emalie Graves of Chaparral 8-5.

In No. 1 singles, Addie Hinshaw went 1-2. She lost to Ryan Schneider of Kingman 8-3 and Chelsie Brown of Sterling 8-3, before defeating Katelyn Reams of Chaparral 8-5.

In No. 2 doubles, Jordan Koehn and Elly Hays defeated Kingman’s duo 8-6, lost to Sterling 8-1 and Chaparral 8-4.

WHS Volleyball 

Wellington lost to Rose Hill 25-22, 25-13.

Wellington lost to Collegiate 25-20, 25-11.

Wellington girls are now 3-5.
