Two blocks of U.S. 81 closed after truck snags utility line and snaps pole
by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — A low-lying electrical wire getting snagged by the top end of a Federal Express truck trailer is being blamed for an accident which closed A Street — i.e. U.S. 81 — for about two hours from north of the roundabout to 18th Street.
City of Wellington utility workers were busy restoring power and replacing a utility pole late Monday afternoon. Drivers were detoured to B Street as two blocks were closed down for a couple of hours .Â
Allegedly, a driver of a Federal Express truck was turning out of a private driveway after delivering goods around 4 p.m. Monday. He was making a lefthand turn and the corner of his trailer snagged the low-hanging utility wire. As he proceeding south, the wire got entangled and snapped the utility pole to the north.
No one was hurt in the incident.
