Updated tournament synopsis:Â
Sedan 64, Caldwell 47
Sedan played a suffocated defense, especially in the first half, and kept Caldwell from getting its offense going. Sedan also missed a lot of close range shots and layups that might have let them pull away sooner if those shots had connected.
Sedan led by 13 early in the second quarter, and Caldwell cut the deficit to eight at halftime, but still had only 14 points, trailing 22-14.
Dilyn Volavka led an early charge to start the third quarter, scoring Caldwell’s first seven points. A basket by Colten Ward cut the deficit to five early in the quarter. Sedan responded with a 12-2 run and led 42-29 going into the final quarter.
Caldwell got no closer as Sedan gradually pulled away. Sedan got the ball inside more in the second half as Caldwell fell into foul trouble. Kiefer Brewer scored 13 of his 16 points in the third quarter for Sedan. Jaden Jeffrey scored 24 and Alex Perez added 18 for the Blue Devils.
Colten Ward led Caldwell with 25. He had three 3-pointers and hit 10 of 12 free throws. Volavka had 17 for Caldwell.
Argonia 48, Oxford 37
Argonia pulled out to an early lead, only to see Oxford catch up by halftime. The Raiders of Argonia pulled away in the second half but a scrappy Oxford team never stopped.
Argonia led by six a few times in the first half, but Oxford trimmed the deficit to one late in the second quarter and Argonia led 23-20 at the break.
Argonia took control in the third quarter pounding the ball inside. The Raiders started the second half on a 12-6 run and managed a 35-28 lead going into the final quarter.
Argonia outscored Oxford 13-9 in the final quarter. The Raiders managed a 15 point lead late in the game.
Evan Dolley scored 20 points for Argonia. Seth Hemberger scored 11, Kolten Koerner scored 10 and Trevor Pierce scored seven for Argonia.
Eight different players scored for Oxford with no one getting in double figures. Camren Clements scored eight, Kyso Perrin had seven and Kaleb Hunt added six for the Wildcats.
