Al Amberg Jr., 93, Wellington: Feb. 18, 1923 – Jan. 7, 2017
Albert Sidney Amberg Jr. died Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington at the age of 93.
Albert was born the son of Albert, Sr. and Bessie Lee (Stephens) Amberg on Sunday, February 18, 1923 in Wellington, Kansas.
Following high school graduation, Albert enlisted in the US Army and served in the South Pacific during WWII. After his discharge, Albert attended college where he played football at Fort Hays State University and Emporia State University. He later began his career in the railroad industry and retired from AT&SF Railroad after a 36 year career.Â
On November 4, 1950, Albert and Doris L. Dorr were united in marriage in Wellington, Kansas. Together they recently celebrated 66 years of marriage.
Survivors include his wife Doris Amberg; son, Dustin Amberg (Sally); son, Chris Amberg; brother, Jack Amberg all of Wellington, Kansas; grandson, Ryan Amberg of Wichita, Kansas and great-grandchildren: Emberly, Macy and Alec Gonzalez all of Wellington, Kansas.Â
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Billie Waters and Josephine Weber and granddaughter, Lauren Amberg-Gonzalez.
An evening of remembrance will begin at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, January 12, 2016 in the chapel of Cornejo|Day Funeral Home. Pastor Zane Brooks will officiate.Â
A memorial fund has been established in his loving memory to the WHS Crusader Club. Contributions may be mailed or left with the funeral home.
