Vaunda Day, 78, Wellington: Jan. 31, 1938 – Aug. 26, 2016

Vaundalia Day

Vaunda Day

Vaunda Day died on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Serenity Senior Retreat in Wellington, Kansas at the age of 78.

Vaunda was born the daughter of J. Eugene and Bertha H. (Dwyer) Wartick on Monday, January 31, 1938 in Wellington, Kansas.

On February 5, 1956, Vaunda and Russell Dean Day were united in marriage in Wellington, Kansas. Together they celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Vaunda was first employed as a Teller at First Federal Savings and Loan; however, many will remember her from a 25 year career as a Para Educator in the Wellington schools. She really enjoyed working with students in the expanded skills classes. Outside of work, Vaunda held many interests such as genealogy where she spent many hours researching and assembling books about her family history.

Vaunda was an avid reader that went through novel after novel for enjoyment. Above all, she loved being a mother and wife on the family farm. Whether it was watching her horses from the kitchen window, cooking meals for her family and farm help (meatloaf, minute steaks, burgers and chili were some of her favorites), to moving equipment and occasionally running a tractor, Vaunda loved the life she and Russell made together.

Survivors include her husband, Russell Day of Wellington, Kansas; daughter, Lisa Seirer (Rocky) of Wakefield, Kansas; son, Rusty Day of Los Angeles, California; son, Mitch Day (Lori) of Wellington, Kansas; brother, John Wartick of Wilburton, Oklahoma; brother, Tomas Wartick of Wilburton, Oklahoma; sister, Rita Wartick of Perry, Oklahoma; grandchildren: Shawna Seirer, Tyson Seirer, Marcus Seirer, Colton Day and Meridith Day and a great-granddaughter, Brynlee Seirer.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Donald Eugene Wartick.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 29, 2016 with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
