Individual results: Mekenna Adams and Kylie Aufdengarten turned in the best performance by placing 10th, going 3-2 on the day. The pair beat Bishop Carroll in their opening match 8-3.  The two then faced a very good Wichita Independent team and fell behind 2-5.  The pair of Wellington players tied the match up and eventually got it to 7-7 where they played a tiebreaker. Again, Adams and Aufdengarten fell behind 2-5 but took a lead at 7-6, and dropped three straight points losing the match 9-7 in the tiebreaker.

“That was a tough one and that one hurts,” said Brian Aufdengarten, Wellington tennis coach.

Wichita Independent then won 8-5 and 8-2 in their next two matches to make the finals. The Wellington pair rebound quickly and beat Andover 8-1 and Winfield 8-1.  In their final match they fell behind again early 1-5, and again tied it up and went to another tiebreak against Goddard.  But again came up short losing 5-7 in the tiebreaker.

Jacelyn Buck finished 15th going 2-3 on the day.  Buck won her opening match over Salgado from Kapaun 8-4. Then she almost had one of the biggest upsets of the tournament playing Stevens from Bishop Carroll and losing 8-6.

“Dang, what a match, that girl is good,” Aufdengarten said. “She went on and took fifth, what a match for Jacelyn.”

Buck then lost her next two matches to Newton and Wichita Independent.  In her final match she beat Hoag from Ark City 8-4.

“Very nice day for Jacelyn, very proud of her performance,” Aufdengarten said.

Abby Lowe finished 17th going 3-1.  Lowe lost to Cadman from Independent 4-8 in her first match then won the rest of her matches.  Lowe beat Molinar from Campus, then beat Trout from Independence, and Nihart from Winfield in her final match.

“Abby rebounded well, but probably didn’t play her best tennis today.” Aufdengarten said. “She found a way to win all day.”

Lauryn Snipes and Avery Rusk 22nd going 2-3.  The pair lost to Ark City to start the day, then beat Collegiate 8-3 in their second match.

“They lost a close match to Winfield and again turned around the next match to beat Kapaun.  In their final match they lost to Goddard.

“These two are still learning to play,” Aufdengarten said. “They are very athletic and win a lot on that.”
