Marcia and Ray Waugh, of Wellington, died on Saturday, December 3, 2016. They were each 77 years of age.

Marcia was born the daughter of Byrl and Mary (McLaughlin) Carter on Tuesday, March 7, 1939 in Wichita A few months later, Carl Raymond Waugh, Jr. was born to Carl, Sr. and Ruth (White) Waugh on June 26, 1939 in Ashland, Kansas. Clearwater is where Ray and Marcia met and became high school sweethearts. Following graduation, they briefly attended K-State University but decided to get married and start a family.

Ray and Marcia were united in marriage on August 16, 1959 in Clearwater. The couple recently celebrated 57 years of marriage. Ray went on to be a farmer and continued farming until his passing. Marcia went back to college when her children started school.

She became an elementary teacher and retired following a 30 year career at both Lincoln and Washington Elementary Schools along with Cowley County Community College (Mulvane). Following retirement, Marcia stayed busy teaching piano lessons. 

Survivors include their daughter, Teri Sutton (Jim) of Wellington, Kansas, son, Dean Waugh (Theresa) of Clearwater, Kansas; grandson, Nathan Sutton (Tonya), granddaughter, Brenna Brownlee (Ryan), grandson, Jared Sutton (Kristin), grandson, Brady Levan (Kayleigh), granddaughter, Brianna Sutton, granddaughter, Beverly Robinson and grandson, Cordell Robinson; 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Ray is survived by his sisters, Virginia Kepley (Larry) and Sheila Zimmerman (Lindley). Marcia is survived by her brother, Larry Carter.

Ray and Marcia’s parents preceded them in death along with Ray’s sister, Julia Starling.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, December 8, 2016 with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A joint service will be held for Ray and Marcia at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 9, 2016 at First Christian Church, Wellington, Kansas. Pastor David Hansen will officiate.

Interment will follow at the Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Wellington, Kansas.

Memorials have been established in their loving memory to the First Christian Church or the Wellington High School FFA. Contributions may be mailed or left with the funeral home.
