Adam Nusz, 89, Wellington: April 24, 1937 – Sept. 1, 2026
Adam J Nusz, age 89, died on Sept. 1, at his home. Born on April 24, 1937, in Fairview, Okla., Adam was the 11th of 12 children born to John and Sarah Nusz. Adam spent the majority of his life in Wellington, where he was a well-respected member of the farming community. His life was deeply rooted in the land and the people he served, working tirelessly for 35 years in custom harvesting and as a farmer from age 14 up until he passed away. His love for his work was admirable, and he was held in high regard by the many hands who worked with him over the years, many of whom would continue to call him for a chat years after working together.
Adam left school after eighth grade to farm on his own. He returned to his education two years later and continued farming throughout his high school years in Conway Springs, where he graduated. Adam was drafted into the Army on March 22, 1960, and was honorably discharged on April 25, 1962. While continuing to farm, he became a custom harvester, traveling to California and then making his way all the way to Montana. When he stopped working as a custom harvester, he started hauling cotton modules, mainly in Texas. Despite the demanding work, Adam always made time for his family. He married in November 1969 and shared 56 wonderful years with his wife, Arlene.
Adam’s dedication to farming was paralleled only by his love for his family. He cherished the time spent with his daughter, Yvette, who often helped him on the farm. He was also a loving grandfather and great-grandfather, treasuring moments with his grandchildren, Leanne and Kaylene, and great-granddaughter, Lacy. Adam’s family was his pride and joy, and he often shared stories about his life and experiences, creating cherished memories they hold dear to their hearts.
Adam is survived by his beloved wife, Arlene Nusz; daughter, Yvette (Jay) Neal; granddaughters, Leanne (Heath) Carroll and Kaylene (Sage) Ferguson; great-granddaughter, Lacy Carroll; sisters, Hannah (Dr. Harry) James of Pond Creek, OK, Sarah Koop of Eureka, KS, and Ruth Blackwood of Eureka, KS; and his sister-in-law, Bonnie Nusz of Rose Hill, KS.
Adam was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sarah Nusz; his brothers, Henry, Albert, Pete, John, and Aron Nusz; and his sisters, Olivia Milligan, and Kate Dyck.
Funeral Services for Adam will be held at the Wellington Free Will Baptist Church, 802 East 16th Street, Wellington, Kansas, 67152, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 10:30 am with interment to follow at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Wellington, Kansas.
