Betty Joan Gandy, 86, Wellington: Oct. 15, 1939 – June 24, 2026
Betty Joan Gandy, of Wellington, died on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the age of 86.
Betty was born the daughter of Ralph and Fannie (Camp) Evans on October 15, 1939, in Sedan
Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her marriage to Kenneth Gandy on July 16, 1971, was a testament to their enduring love, having spent 52 years together before his passing in 2023. Betty was known for her unapologetic honesty and spirited pranks, keeping those around her on their toes and filling their lives with joy and laughter. Betty’s home was a hub of family gatherings, holiday celebrations, and much-needed advice – served with a side of good-natured teasing and a collection of owl memorabilia that would put a museum to shame.
Betty’s charm was apparent from a young age. Her welcoming nature and social spirit drew people to her, and she was known to never meet a stranger. Her dedication to her job in the aircraft industry as a sheet metal worker was as strong as her love for her morning coffee and daily chats with her friends. She was an enthusiastic bowler and golfer, but nothing made her happier than a house full of family, a table laden with food, and the laughter and conversation that followed. In the last few years, her close friend, Debbie Alexander, has always been there for Betty, whether it’s to drive her around, run errands, or just be a friend to lean on.
Betty is survived by her loving children: Maggie Boettcher of Wellington, KS; Carol (Tom) Rathbun of Geneseo, KS; Aron (Kelly) Chambers of Cheyenne, WY; grandchildren: Charles (Ashley) Jackson of Augusta, KS; Amy Jackson of Heston, KS; Miguel Machado of Wellington, KS; Amanda (Dustin) Stevens of Rose Hill, KS; Byron (Amy) Machado of Wichita, KS; Kate Morrison of Park City, KS; Ryan Morrison of Vancouver, WA; along with 23 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Fannie Evans; her husband, Kenneth Gandy; her son, Virgil Morrison; her grandsons, Tim Jackson and Alonzo Machado; and her brothers, Billy Evans and Dick Evans.
Memorial contributions may be made in her loving memory to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284. Contributions may be mailed or left with the funeral home.
