By Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow – Logan Gaither, an Oxford, 6-4, junior; and Tori Morrison, an Argonia 5-8, senior, have been named the Big Cheese Athletes of the Week.

Both players helped lead their teams to the South-Central Border League Tournament Championships on Friday.

Gaither hit the game-winning shot under the basket to lift Oxford to a 37-35 win over Cedar Vale-Oxford and give the Wildcats their first SCBL tournament championship since 2007. Gaither averaged 11.3 points per game and 8.6 rebounds in the SCBL Tourney. For the season, he is averaging 9.7 ppg and 8.9 rpg.

Morrison scored 11 points in leading Argonia to a dominating 51-23 win over Flinthills in the SCBL championship game.  She nearly pulled off a triple-double in the first-round win vs. Sedan. She had 11 points, 10 rebounds and nine steals in the 41-16 win. In the semifinals against South Haven, she almost did it again with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and nine steals.

For their effort, Gaither and Morrison are recipients of a large, delicious Big Cheese Pizza at 324 N. Washington in Wellington.
