Cayson Ramirez

Maddie Fullerton

By Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — This week’s Big Cheese Athletes of the Week are Wellington wrestlers Cayson Ramirez and Maddie Fullerton.

Ramirez, at 190 pounds, was the lone boy wrestler to reach the Class 4A State Tournament for Wellington. He finished the weekend at Tony’s Pizza Center in Salina with a 2-2 record and was the only Winfield Regional wrestler to reach the blood round, one round from placing.

Fullerton, who has won this award two other times this year, had the most sensational state tournament of any Wellington wrestler. The junior placed second at 130 pounds, losing to Addilyn Wacker of Iola, finishing up a 34-3 season.

For their efforts, Ramirez and Fullerton are recipients of a large, delicious Big Cheese Pizza at 324 N. Washington.
