City of Wellington Fireworks regulations and safety rules

Sumner Newscow report – It is getting that time of year that everyone celebrates the birth of our nation by shooting off small explosives. People within the City of Wellington limits can discharge fireworks from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., July 1 through Jule 3; and 10 a.m. to midnight no July 4.Retail sale hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. from July 1 through July 4.

The following are regulations and safety rules presented by the Wellington City Fire Department:

Firework Regulations and Safety

` Always purchase high quality fireworks from reliable and legitimate sources.

· Always read and follow label directions.

· Have an adult supervise all fireworks activities.

· Always ignite fireworks outdoors, but not on a city street.

· Have water nearby.

· Never experiment or attempt to make your own fireworks.

· Light only one firework at a time.

· Never re-ignite malfunctioning fireworks.

· Never give fireworks to small children.

· Store fireworks in a cool, dry place.

· Dispose of fireworks properly, preferably in a bucket of water.

· Never throw or shoot fireworks at another person or at vehicles.

· Never carry fireworks in your pocket.

· Never shoot fireworks in metal or glass containers.

` Be respectful of your neighbors and pets.

` No discharge of fireworks at Wellington Lake or any city park.

In addition, bottle rockets and M80s are dangerous and illegal in the state of Kansas. The use or sale of these banned fireworks is considered a crime under Kansas law.
