Conway Springs’ Brayden Kunz finishes 3rd nationally in calf roping at National High School Finals Rodeo
Sumner Newscow report — Brayden Kunz, a junior at Conway Spring High School, had a good week at the 74th Annual National High School Finals Rodeo in the Calf Roping competition. The competition was held in Gillette, Wyo. on July 17-23.
In Round One of the competition, he earned an 8.65 score which earned a third-place finish. Overall, Brayden finished 17th bringing home a scholarship, jackpot money and a belt buckle.
Brayden is the son of Shaun and Jennifer Kunz of Milan and grandson of Allan and Vicki Longbine of Anthony, Jeanie Catlin of Wellington, and Dan and Shannon Kunz of Attica.
Kunz was crowned the Kansas State High School Calf Roping Champion on May 28, 2022, at the Kansas State Finals at the Kansas Star Casino in Mulvane. Brayden was a Reserve Champion in the calf roping at the state finals last year and competed at the National Finals event in Lincoln, Neb. featuring more than 1,650 contestants from 44 states, five Canadian Provinces, Australia, Mexico, and New Zealand, the NHSFR is the world’s largest rodeo.
