Cost: Adults (12+) $10    Ages 4-11: $6. Those under 4 get in free. Carryouts $12.

History of the Corbin UMC Turkey Supper: 

It was around 1952 in the little town of Corbin, when the Methodist Women there took pity on the election board workers and decided to serve them a delicious turkey dinner.  According to legend, they served them a meal for several years at the old annex building near the church, and then it started to GROW.  And grow it did over the years as the turkey supper in Corbin now serves over 500 people every year on the first Wednesday in the month of November.  The ladies of the church prepared the turkey dinner with all the fixins.

The young girls of the church wore white shirts and black skirts and served the meals. Now the ladies prepare the food, the youth serve the meal, and the men help in numerous other ways!  The first few years, the meal cost $0.50 a plate.  The ladies still try to keep the cost reasonable at $10.00 a plate for adults.

At last year’s supper approximately 600 people were served over 500 pounds of turkey, 200 pounds of mashed potatoes, 200 pounds of sweet potatoes, 80 pies, and 50 dozen rolls!  If you live even close to the town of Corbin, you might get hit up to provide a pie for the supper.  It is a community event! There are even valets to help park the hundreds of cars around the church.

It seems every new preacher that comes to Corbin is completely blindsided by the number of people crammed into the church waiting for that special home-cooked meal.  We like to tell them the only two times Corbin comes alive is softball tourney time and the turkey supper!

The 2017 turkey supper is fast approaching and will be held November 1 beginning at 5 pm at the Corbin United Methodist Church.  Come join us the night the town comes alive!!
