Dennis Iverson, 83, Wellington: March 31, 1940 – Nov. 10, 2023
Dennis Iverson, affectionately known by his CB Radio group as “Woodcutter” and “Denny” by his doting grandmother, died on November 10, 2023 at Botkin Care and Rehab in Wellington. Born and raised in Mulvane, Dennis was the son of Lawrence and Juanita (Kuhn) Iverson.
Dennis was a funny, witty, and talented man who approached life with a sense of humor and a thoughtful demeanor. He was well-known for his woodworking and carpentry skills, carving remarkable boots and animal figures that he cherished as collectibles. A nature lover at heart, Dennis found joy in fishing, whether it was a quiet afternoon spent at a farm pond or an adventurous trout fishing trip to Roaring River, Missouri.
Dennis was an accomplished man, retiring in 1991 following an over 30-year career as an installer with Western Electric. However, his talents extended beyond his professional life. Dennis was a talented trap shooter, often spending quality time with his family engaged in the sport.
He and his loving spouse, Almetta, cherished their travels across the United States in their motor home with the Telephone Pioneer Campers, with a favorite destination being Branson, Missouri. Dennis also made time for his church by serving to help maintain the building and grounds.
Above all else, what mattered most to Dennis was his family. He took immense joy in his role as a grandfather and father, always making an effort to attend his grandkids’ sports events. He was a gifted caregiver, known for his unique ability to calm his grandkids and lull them to sleep. His love for baseball, a significant part of his childhood due to his father’s role as his coach and manager, was something he cherished and passed down to his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving wife, Almetta “Dutch” Iverson of the home; son, David Iverson and wife Collette of Ohio; daughter, Denise Feranbaugh and husband Albert of Ohio; step-daughter, Renee Price and husband Rob of Idaho; step-son, Gregg Elkins and wife Susan of Wellington; step-daughter, Tammy O’Neal of Wellington; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren along with his brothers: Ron Iverson and wife Kathy of Denver, Colorado and Steve Iverson and wie Stella of Derby.
